Paths to sustainable mobility in the canton of Zurich

In the transport sector, the energy transition has become more and more important in recent years and is an essential part of the implementation of climate policy goals. The focus is on reducing CO2 and other air pollutants.

The aim of the research project is to obtain a comprehensive picture of the traffic situation in the canton of Zurich and to develop recommendations for sustainable mobility and to identify possible options and obstacles in regard to climate policy goals.

Many projects in relation to sustainability have been funded in the canton of Zurich in recent years. Although new mobility concepts and technologies have been developed and supported, problems occurred with their implementation.

A comprehensive cross-sectoral analysis of the current state of sustainable mobility is to be carried out and the opportunities and obstacles of new mobility concepts identified.

The main project goals include the analysis of regional conditions (existing spatial and economic structures, political and social institutions, existing transport services and existing mobility patterns) with the subsequent development of measures to improve sustainable mobility, the elaboration of an overview of already existing projects in the transport sector and the development of measures to increase the share of renewable energies and reduce emissions.
